ITFT was founded in 2013 with the appointment of Götz T. Gresser as a professor at the University of Stuttgart. A small, young team researches fundamentals of fiber-reinforced composite technology. In public funded projects, materials, structures and processes are being developed that meet the new requirements for resource conservation, material efficiency and adaptive production technology.

The base of our research work is the knowledge about fibers and semi-finished textile products as well as their manufacturing processes. Only via optimally adapted textiles, addressing the requirements of the application, a high-performance fiber-reinforced composite component can be constructed and manufactured. This knowledge is passed on to students at the University of Stuttgart in various courses at the Faculty 4.
